Nutmeg Sword's first Race

Nutmeg Sword stood, restlessly as the grooms groomed him and tacked him up then finally led him out towards the other horses, Nutmeg stared at them, he was going to lose this race, he could tell, it was his first real race against professional racers...Nutmeg snorted and watched his jockey walk towards him

Free Spirit snorted loudly in excitement, looking out at all the other muscled Thoroughbreds that had payed thousands to just race in this race, she was young yet strong, intelligent enough to make over her little experience she has had on the course.

nutmeg's jockey mounted him and they all walked towards the staring gates

Free Spirit felt the soft brush leave the side of her neck then the familiar weight falling into the racing saddle, it was positioned perfectly for the run. She felt a light nudge at her sides then moved into a canter around the course as all the other horses did, reaching the gates then being jammed into them.

Nutmeg walekd into the gates and stood, leaning from foot to foot then stood, ready to take off and waited for the other horses

Free Spirited, now officially Running Thunder almost leaned on the gate. Her ears pricked as the loud noise rung then the gates flung open, she galloped through them so fast one of the gates hit her side. She winced then ignored it, the slight pain slowly faded away as she got into a good position, just behind the middle....Because she had lots of stamina and guts she could easily fly to first.

Nutmeg galloped out the gates, a little slower then the others and then soon caught up, running bside Free Spirit to have more stamina for the final turn

Free Spirit snorted and looked at him, competitive already. She slightly gained speed, her owner stopping her from going straight up the large herd of horses. She felt her jockey tense and nervous, looking around and finding out what place they were in.

Nutmeg snorted and shook his head then looked forward, ears slightly back and could tell his jockey was holding him back and turning him to the outside and Nutmeg did as he was told and galloped on the outside of the group, slowly gaining speed near the last turn, sweat on his neck

Free Spirit snorted loudly, they replaced her breathes. She almost reared up as dirt from the Thoroughbred flicked up at her face but he just tossed her head and moved further outwards, the jockey let her. They continued on and Free pinned her ears back at any horse that tried to challenge horse, they were in a good spot now and there was only 2 corners left on the course.

Nutmeg kept galloping at a steady pace when they reached the last corner of the track and felt his jockey loosen the reins and he galloped faster

Free Spirit's ears finally pricked forward as the end came in site. He jockey almost till last minute then whipped her, sending her forward and quickly past several horses then put in all their effort for the winners circle.

Nutmeg puleld back his head, snorting then stretched it out long and galloped as fast as he could, galloping past everyone else, soon in first place and the end came in sight

Free Spirit looked at the Thoroughbred in the lead, he got up a little too quick and may run out of energy before the others. She felt the whip hit her side twice in a steady rhythm then gave her more rein, letting her thunder past 3rd and 2nd and making her way up to first as the finish was very close now.

Nutmeg soon was breathing heavily but didn't let hat stop him and kept running, pushing himself faster

Free Spirit started to feel sweat trickle down her neck, flying back into the wind by the speed she was galloping. Free Spirit thundered up next to him, that is how she earn her race name Running Thunder. She pushed out her muzzle, it past his. She then widened her stride and picked up the pace as the finish was only meters away, it happening so quickly.

Nutmeg slowed but pushed himself faster, and when they past the finish line he came second and the jockey slowed him to a canter for a while then a trot

Free Spirit threw up her head excitedly as they replayed it on the huge screens showing to the silent crowd. Then a loud noise beckoned from near the crowd of people "And the winner is....Running Thunder." It announced and she smiled widely. She galloped for a long while then forced herself to a canter, the canter was slow with huge strides.

Nutmeg slowed to a walk and looked at Free Spirit and snorted and sighed

Free Spirit slowed to a walk then walked back to her stall, being praised by her owner who quickly rushed to her. "Lets get you to the winners circle." She said grabbing her reins and leading her, the jockey dismounting and following them.

Nutmeg watched Free Spirit being led away and grunted...his firs ever real race and he comes only second....oh well...he felt his jockey dismount then his owner lead him away

Now Running Thunder's here at the races owner smiled as he pat her sweaty neck. "Fancy that, a filly winning a champion mix." He said grinning, still not truly believing what he had just said. Free Spirit looked forward and at the winners circle. Crowds of people swarmed around him, she winced a flashes out light blinded her eyes and she lifted her head around the microphones held out at them all. "Back off." Her owner said pushing several of them away and moving into the winners circle, were they placed a big bundle of roses lying on her neck and resting on her large shoulders.

Numeg's owner tied him to a post then the grooms untacked him and groomed him.

Running Thunder was finally released form the commotion and raucous that she had been surrounded in as she was lead back to her stall. Her jockey at her side now, loosening her girth already.

Nutmeg shook himself off then tried to nip one of the grooms when they brushed over his flank
