Near Death

The small weak female whined lightly as she was through out into the bark yard. Abused and beaten, she leaned on the barbwire fence pain in her every move. She wanted to die, here and there.

Rock walked down the alley way looking for food for his lunch. Just then he caught sight of another dog in the distance. Trotting over to investigate, he barked out to her. "Hey. Hungry?" Before approaching the dog, Rock stopped and jumped onto his back legs onto a rubbish bin and dug his muzzle into the disposal. Rock pulled out a piece of unfinished chicken wing which had pretty much left. He dropped it out of the bin and pushed his muzzle back into the bin. Now he pulled out another larger piece of the chicken. He then jumped off the bin and bit onto the chicken bits, walking over to the female. Rock swung and threw the smaller piece of chicken wing over the fence for the little dog. He then walked over to the corner of the alley with his piece and laid down, settling into his own comfortable position before tucking into the chicken, munching away.

Dove looked at the male and barked a small, but greatful thanks. She edged away fromt he fence and to the chicken, where she at it all very quickly. She smiled at her tummy, now with just a bit of food in it. She wondered where the male had gone to, as she tried to clean up her wounds.

As soon as Rock finished his piece, only left with some bones, Rock kicked the bone to one side and stood up, then walked over to the fence where the female was. "Hey. Need help?" he asked, then continued, "Apparently once you get used to my life, it's much easier to lead than yours." Rock sat down away from the fence and laid down, resting.

Dove cocked her head. "You woud...Help me escape?" She asked hopefully. She wondeered closer to Rocky.

"Of course. I could also help you to adjust to the life before you're on your own." Rock replied. The fence wasn't really that high. Rock stood up and walked over closer to the little female dog. He sat down and awaited the female's answer.

Dove nodded quickly. "Just help me leave this place." She begged. She waited for Rock to say what todo.

Rock took a few steps back, then leapt over the fence. Rock grabbed Dove by the scruff, careful not to hurt her any way. Rock then jumped and dropped Dove on top of the fence and prepared to leap over the fence again.

Dove looked around, then fell forward, out of the hellhole where she was in. She wagged her tail greatfully and pranced happily. Free at last!

Rock soared over the fence and landed on the other side. "Come on, let's leave before your owners discover your disappearance." Rock leaped forward and raced on, down the alley, slowing down once in a while for the dog to catch up.

Dove ran after him, panting also. She tried to keep the same speed as Rock, bt that didn't turn out well. She kept running with all her might, away from the demons.

Rock slowed down to a halt. They weren't far from Dove's 'home', but he could see she needed a rest. And they needed to escape without being caught. Now they were still in an alley, at the back of some shops. The space was wide and dull, but at least no one was here. He gestured to a small cardboard box at the side of the building that Dove could probably fit in. He laid down opposite of it and rested his head on his paws. "What's your name?"

Dove slowly laid down inside the box. "I'm Dove. You are?" She asked him wile curling up abit for some warmth. She felt free out here, like she belonged here.

"Rock," The Shepard mumbled. He pricked his ears, feeling slightly bored as he watched the little one. He stood up and held his muzzle out, sniffing the air. Rock walked a little further from Dove and from behind the stairs leading to a door, was a piece of half-eaten steak that seemed to be slightly burnt. Rock bit into the steak. It was still fresh and a little hot. Rock walked back to Dove and sat in front of her. "If you're hungry." He took a bite out of the steak, then laid down about a few metres away.

Dove nodded a thank you and took a large bite greedily, but she ate slow, trying to save the moment of food.

Rock watched Dove take a bite and waited a while before taking another bite. He couldn't resist but said, "Eat as much as you can. The humans always have leftovers. If you are still hungry, we could always go look for some more." He added.

Dove nodded and ate the rest quickly. She sat up and glanced around. "How long have you lived around in the city?" She asked him, licking her lips.

Rock thought for a while. He never really noticed. "I'm guessing I've been a stray for a couple of years or so." He watched the female devour the meat hungrily.

Dove nodded. "So you weren't born a stray?" She asked and sat up.

"No," Rock answered steadily. He raised his head from the ground and began his story. "My mother was being ill-treated, like you were. She died after giving birth to me. I have no idea who or where my father is. I was thrown out after a couple of weeks because they thought I was a jinx, causing my mother's death and all the unfortunate events after that," Sighing, Rock rested his head on the ground again, recalling his past.

Dove walked out of the box and nuzzled him lightly. "At least its all over now," She said, trying to make him feel a bit better. She now felt bad for asking the question. Though she, had a way worse past then that.

Rock couldn't pity himself. It was just that that was his fate, as a stray. He was barely even walking when he left the house. The stories a stray had to tell would never end. He had barely survived out there, with all the bleeding and scars. Rock pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind and looked at Dove. "And how was your life?"

'Terrible." Dove sighed. "I was bred at a puppy mill, and was sent to the pet shop. No one bought me so they took my back and bred me with some random male." She snorted. "But I had the pups then was sent back to the pet shop, and was bought by the ruthless devil." And that was just a breif explanation.

Rock listened to the female's story, then started, "And that left you..." Rock laid there and waited for Dove to finish his sentence.

"Abusement, lack of feeding, all that good stuff." She snorted.
