Dove perked her ears. "You would? But I have no idea if there adopted, or still at the puppymill...or ..." She didn't say the last one.

Rock cut in. "We could check the puppymill first. Perhaps they were like you, unsold and sent back to the puppymill. We could also try and help the other dogs there..." He said, perking up as he watched a mouse scurry by, then continued to lay on the ground.

"Good idea," Dove smiled. "When do we go?" She asked him wile sitting up. She waited calmly for an answer.

"Whenever you are ready," Rock answered steadily, sitting up as well. He looked down the alley, when the busy roads were being filled with all sorts of vehicles.

"I'm ready now." Dove said and stood up. She hoped her pups would be there so she can help them.

Rock looked down both sides of the alley. "We'll have to take a longer path." He announced, standing up and racing down the other end of the alleyway and glancing back to see if Dove was following.

Rock sighed, rushing on. "I do. Or would you like to take the lead if you think there is a faster path?" he asked questioningly.

Rock thought for a while. "No..." He continued to speed down the alley. "But there is one alley, just behind the shops." Rock made a turn and slowed down to a walk. "We're almost there anyway. Just a couple more turns."

Before long, Rock skidded to a halt. "This is it," he declared, staring from the back of the mill. Right next door was the pound. How horrible. Rock turned to Dove and sat down, waiting for Dove to make the decision.

Dove looked around and sniffed the air for where the pups where held. She slowly walked that way.

Rock walked after Dove, looking around warily as he silently walked after Dove. He scanned the mill. Many puppies were locked in barred cages, so small they could barely even turn around.

Rock walked forward and examined the cage. It didn't seem to be locked with a key since there was no keyhole, but more like a handle and a little portion to put their food. Rock bit the handle and pulled. It took some time, but he managed to pull it open.

Dove smiled and nuzzled her pups, who soon woke up with all the smoothering. They all yipped happil, until she told them to shush. It woke some of the other pups up too.

Rock smiled at the scene, then motioned to Dove. "We have to go." He could hear faint footsteps but fortunately they were distant.

Rock stopped in his tracks. "Fine. We stay, but someone's coming." Quickly, Rock led Dove and her pups behind one row of the cages as a man made his way in.
